Safety and Security

Teams staying and playing in Tshwane can be assured of the highest levels of safety and security planning and implementation possible.  Since South Africa won the bid to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ our metropolitan police have been on fact finding missions to every nation hosting a large event including Germany in 2006.  Whist we understand nothing touches the FIFA World Cup™ in terms of size and scope, our forces have successfully planned and executed safety measures during the World Summit on Sustainable development, and world cups in cricket and rugby.

All our safety and security plans ran smoothly during Confederations Cup and this is forming the basis for the 2010 plans.  In terms of security infrastructure, Tshwane Metro Police will be increasing the reach of the CCTV camera system which already covers large parts of the city and a new TETRA communication system will be in place before the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ with a state of the art control room facility.

There is also a plan in progress of increasing the city’s disaster management capacity with the training of volunteers to forces such as the fire department.

Every measure will be taken to ensure the safety of teams and fans alike.
