Organisation

The successful delivery of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ is the responsibility of a dedicated 2010 Unit within the Office of the Executive Mayor and City Manager of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

The Unit is headed by a CEO, Mr Godfrey Nkwane and the team is managed by a project management team and managers in the following areas:

  • Legacy and sustainability

The purpose of this cluster is to ensure the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ leaves lasting benefits for the communities of Tshwane. This cluster also includes the volunteer programme.

  • Marketing and Communication

This cluster is responsible for the delivery of the major events around the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ including the FIFA Fan Fest™; all communication and media engagement; and all marketing and branding activities.

  • Integrated Infrastructure

The preparation of Tshwane’s infrastructure to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ was particularly important.  Stadiums, road upgrades, precinct upgrades and other infrastructure issues fall to this cluster.

  • Safety and Security

Precinct plans, safety panning and management of the integrated approach to safety for venues, fans, delegations and teams within Tshwane fall to this cluster.  They ensure the requirements of all law enforcement agencies are met within the planning of the tournament.

  • Legal and Compliance

This cluster is responsible for negotiating the minefield of by-laws and stringent requirements of hosting a FIFA World Cup™.  The management of rights protection for FIFA and their partners is the responsibility of this cluster.  Environmental compliance also falls to them.
